Let's strengthen the municipality's connection to cyclists!

Problem

Problem

Cyclists of the city help to reduce the problem of urban mobility management by being extremely space efficient, and environmentally friendly. The municipality of the city doesn’t have direct connection to the cyclists, so they can’t express how useful it is for the community that they decided to use this mode of transportation.

The idea

The idea

Let’s make the day of the cyclists! We wanted to create a short but personal interaction, combined with a low-cost but useful surprise.  What could we do that is simple yet good for everyone?

The effect

The effect

The solution is simple; we only need a bike pump and some oil to start a conversation. We asked cyclists if we could pump up their tires or oil their chains. If they asked why, or how they could pay, we just said: Thank you for cycling!

This was the core of the activity, but you can add several elements: small presents, bike lamps, badges, or combine it with a “bike and breakfast” event.

The point of the activity is to bring the faceless municipality and the cyclist citizens closer, create a personal interaction, which is important for both sides. The municipality can establish a friendly and caring image, instead of a distant, impersonal one. Pumping and oiling bikes is actually useful – most people tend to procrastinate doing these basic maintenance works, and it can make a huge difference whether the tires have enough air or not. A lot of cyclists will actually be grateful for this action.

We used this idea in a campaign.
